How to care for your jewellery
Caring for each and every Tide and Earth piece...
Tide and Earth pieces are made from 100% sterling silver, using only recycled silver for almost every design. Necklaces are placed on a 925 sterling silver chain which unfortunately are not made from recycled silver, but rest assured we are working on this!
Your pieces should be safe in water (including the deep blue) however like anything, they need some TLC here and there and wearing in water will speed up the tarnishing process.
We do however advise not to wear your seaglass pieces in water, this is because the moisture can work its way underneath the glass and get trapped, causing a build up of tarnish underneath the glass. If you do, make sure you give them a rinse and throughly dry (we use a hairdryer!)
Silver naturally tarnishes over time and the best way to avoid this is to dry it properly and using a silver polishing cloth (our favourite is the Town Talks cloth which is only a few pounds and definitely worth every penny to keep that glorious shine.)
Some general things to bare in mind:
- Tarnishing is normal, it happens and it doesn't damage the metal and can be removed.
- Polishing cloths are your friend.
- Chlorine is not your silvers friend nor are other harsh chemicals.
- Perfumes and other products you use on your skin can also speed up the tarnishing process.
- Stubborn tarnish can be removed with white vinegar and water and a soft, gentle tooth brush.
